LMC Profile
Loveland Mountain Club (LMC) is both a recreational and social organization open to everyone regardless of interest or level of hiking expertise. LMC was established in 1978 for mountain climbers and hikers. Today, LMC offers hiking, backpacking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, mountaineering and climbing for its 100+ members. It also offers biking and geocaching and is open to offering other new activities. Just volunteer to lead it!
Meetings
LMC has a monthly meeting offering programs and speakers of interest to its 100 plus members. The Program Committee takes suggestions from the membership in planning the monthly meeting programs. Typically, we meet on the 1st Monday of the month at 7 P.M. at Pulliam Community Building, at 545 Cleveland Avenue in downtown Loveland. There are exceptions so check the meeting schedule .
Hikes
Hikes and other activities are classified by difficulty so you will know before you hike the length of the trip, elevation gain, distance to travel by car, and needs for food, gas money, clothing and equipment by the information in the Newsletter or Calendar and by your conversation with the Hike Leader. Our hikes are scheduled on weekends and, because many of our members are retired or have flexibility, also on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Activities
Annually we celebrate our anniversary in February with a potluck dinner, a salad supper in July, a Holiday party in December and other planned social activities. As a community service, LMC volunteers to clean and maintain the Round Mountain Summit and Nature Trails and its members volunteer for other Open Space, Larimer County, and Poudre Canyon related preservation and outdoor activities.
Operations
LMC is managed by a nine member Board of Directors including four officers elected annually and five Board members elected for two year staggered terms. Trip Coordinators are assigned a month to assemble that month’s hikes and activities. The Trip Coordinator contacts the Newsletter Editor to prepare a Hiking Schedule to be published monthly which is available on this website. Each activity is led by a Hike Leader who plans and leads the hike establishing a place for everyone to meet and carpool from---usually the Kmart or Chase Bank locations on West Eisenhower. To make it work, the Loveland Mountain Club relies on the work and cooperation of its many volunteers.
Joining Requirements
You do not have to become a member to hike, but after several hikes, we encourage you to join. Contact the Hike Leader and clear your attendance with him or her. The Hike Leader will screen you to be sure you are able to physically handle the hike and give you instructions on when and where to meet. We hike in all conditions so it is your responsibility to be prepared. On this website, there are more detailed instructions on trip difficulty classifications, necessary equipment lists, and other hike instructions and expectations to guide you. Take a look as it will help you have a safe and fun trip. Dues are annual and payable in March each year. The dues are $21/family, $15/individual. On this website is a membership application for you to fill out and mail to our P O Box 983, Loveland, CO 80539 with your check. You also may join at one of our monthly meetings. |
